Construction begins on Exmouth Town Football Club’s spectacular new Pavilion.

Specialist retirement property developer, Blue Cedar Homes, is pleased to announce that construction is well underway at the highly anticipated new pavilion and pitches for Exmouth Town Football Club’s youth section. Blue Cedar Homes are investing £1.58 million in the new facilities for the youth teams which will mark a significant milestone in the club’s history, signalling a new era of growth, opportunities for the community, and enhanced sporting facilities.

The new, purpose-built sports pavilion and three new football pitches have been designed in consultation with Exmouth Town FC by Blue Cedar Homes and forms part of the developer’s community contributions for their adjacent luxury new homes development exclusively for the over 55s, Orcombe Gardens, off Douglas Avenue. The new Pavilion and pitches will offer first class facilities for a range of players to train, compete, and achieve their full potential.

The start of construction is an exciting moment for the football club and the wider Exmouth community who will benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities. This project has been made possible by Blue Cedar Homes £1.68 million community investment in Exmouth, with £1.58 million delivering dedicated to the new football pitch and pavilion for Exmouth Town Football Club, the other contributions include £82,000 towards open spaces and playing pitches, plus £17,227 for improving local biodiversity with a habitat contribution.

Lauren England-Shepherd, Sales and Marketing Manager at Blue Cedar Homes, said “We appreciate that it is very important to support and give back to the local communities that we build in and are delighted, and excited, to be bringing forward these new facilities for the club and the town.”

With a rich history dating back to 1933, Exmouth Town FC currently has operated from Warren View playing pitches, Southern Road an East Devon District Council site since 1964. The new pavilion and pitches off Maer Road Car Park will become the club’s new youth HQ and clubhouse and allow the Southern League Division 1 team to grow the club and offer safeguarded pitches developed for the young people in Exmouth.

One of the defining characteristics of Exmouth Town FC is their unwavering commitment to nurturing local, young talent. There are opportunities for senior players right the way down to under sevens, with the expansion of two girls’ teams starting in the 23/24 season. This means that next season the club will have 13/14 teams, which is a huge achievement given that prior to Covid the club had just 4 youth teams. Furthermore, the club also has an Exmouth Town Soccer School which helps develop children of all ages, regardless of ability, in a fun an enjoyable environment.

Nick James, Director of Youth Football at Exmouth Town Football Club, says “We are really proud as a club to be doing this and thrilled about the opportunities it offers the club and the future of our youth section. There is a well-known shortage of quality sports pitches in the local area and it’s really not every day that this sort of opportunity happens so it is not lost on us how special this is and what it means.

“To have an almost professional facility to use can only enhance our appeal and our reputation as a club, everyone of all ages are very excited about it.  We are really proud and grateful to Blue Cedar Homes – they are set to deliver us a fantastic facility, that will be second to none in the area.  We’ll have a facility to match our ambitions as a club.”

“We’re hoping that the facility will be used by local schools and we can host teams from all over the country in the coming years. We’ve already welcomed a number of teams from Wales and the Bristol area but with a facility like this we can host more and really put Exmouth on the footballing map. Sport has a fantastic way of bringing people together and this facility will really showcase Exmouth in a really positive light.”

The construction of the facilities will be delivered by Skinner Construction for Blue Cedar Homes and is expected to span several months, with completion estimated to be early next year. Regular further updates on the progress of the construction will be shared with the community, as they unfold.
